ARCH Hospice is seeking a Casual Registered Practical Nurse to join the Hospice Team. ARCH Hospice receives partial funding from the government. Every year, we must raise $850,000 to continue providing compassionate care for our community at no cost to residents and their families. Our community has been incredibly supportive and very generous to ARCH since we opened our doors.

General Accountability

As a member of an inter-professional team, the Registered Practical Nurse provides leadership and total care according to established policies and procedures. In addition to clinical care, it includes assessing and anticipating the total physical, emotional, spiritual and psychosocial needs of the residents.

Registered Practical Nurses provide leadership in hospice palliative care and are a positive role model for staff, volunteers, guests, family members, health care professionals and the community.

Qualifications & Skills:

The successful candidate requires strong interpersonal skills, good communication and leadership skills and the ability to work well with all kinds of people.

1. Current licensure with the College of Nurses of Ontario and in good standing.
2. A strong dedication to the vision, mission and values of ARCH.
3. Committed to and knowledgeable of hospice philosophy of care.
4. Ability to interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
5. Demonstrated experience in pain and symptom management.
6. LEAP training or commitment to undertake LEAP training.
7. Palliative Fundamentals training or commitment to undertake training within six months.
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
9. Comfort discussing death and dying and ability to work with resident/family living with and dying from advanced illness.
10. Strong coping skills, self-awareness and commitment to personal well-being.
11. Strong client focus.
12. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and taking constructive action to improve quality and safety.
13. Commitment to life-long learning by participating in ongoing education, self-reflective practice and maintaining a strong commitment to professional practice and personal growth.
14. Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
15. Demonstrated leadership skills.
16. Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team.
17. Ability to both give and take direction.
18. Highly developed problem solving and conflict management skills.
19. Current CPR and commitment to renewal.
20. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
21. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
22. Ability to work day and evening shifts.
23. Computer literate and able to work with Microsoft Suite.
